Hadley McCormack: Portfolio

project1: color as medium

For this project, I created two Photoshop files and experimented with layering the same two images over each other in different ways. One is rendered in CMYK and is intended to be viewed digitally. The other is rendered in RGB and is intended to be viewed in print.

project2: cutting edge

For this project, I followed a set of instructions (a score) that I wrote for myself. I ended up rasterizing two album covers: French Exit by TV Girl, with a low PPI, and Little Dark Age by MGMT, with a high PPI. It was interesting to experiment with different resolutions and see how they affected my perception of the engravings.

My instructions for this project went as follows:

.

project3: steal this book

For this project, I worked with material from the literary magazine of one of Brown's literary societies, King House. The magazine is called Sketchbook. I remixed its content, taking snippets of poems and stories and playing with text, layout, and color. The final product is a print-magazine style piece.

final project: scili (crazy style)

My final project is a 18x5.5x5 inch model of the Brown University Sciences Library (the “Scili”) made out of semi-translucent acrylic plastic. The colors I used were fluorescent orange, fluorescent yellow, fluorescent red, fluorescent blue, and clear acrylic. Each component of the model was mapped in Adobe Illustrator and cut using the Brown Design Workshop’s laser cutter. My goal with this project was to utilize the acrylic’s fluorescent qualities to bring attention to how the architectural components of the Scili work together. No color can stand alone, similarly to how no floor or support beam can stand alone in the actual structure.
